Wondering which travel products I use the most often, and wholeheartedly recommend after ten years of constant travel?

On this page, I’ll be sharing my most up-to-date recommendations for travel tech and gear… based on the must-haves that I’ve been using consistently for years.

Looking for something in particular? Use the links below to jump to the section you’re looking for:

Adapters

Universal Adapter

One of the most important and versatile pieces of travel gear you can get for yourself is hands-down a universal adapter.

I love this one because not only can you use it all around the world, it also has four extra ports (two USB-A, two USB-C) on it to plug extra cables into.

In some accommodation, you might not have a ton of outlets to work with so it’s really great to have a block like this that can charge multiple devices at the same time.

USB-C to USB-A Adapter

Another important adapter to bring with you on all trips is one that converts from USB-C to USB-A.

This is because while most newer electronics these days use USB-C charging cables, the USB ports you find out on planes, buses, etc.,) are often still USB-A, since this was the standard for such a long time. SO, if you go around with just a USB-C cable, your cable might not fit, and therefore might not be able to charge.

You could also just bring both USB-A and USB-C cables for your most important electronics, but I find this solution kind of clunky. I bought a three pack of these a while ago for less than ten bucks and keep one in my wallet, one in my electronics bag, and one in my backpack. This way, I’m never caught out!

Smartphone Cases

Having a case for your phone is crucial when you travel. After a few too many smashed screens, I now know how important it is to protect your phone like it’s your first-born.

Of course, cases these days come in all shapes and sizes… though in my experience, you do get what you pay for.

I would say if your priority is protection, it’s tough to beat Otterbox. These cases are absolutely solid and you will feel the difference instantly compared to the cheaper ones that are less than $20 at mall kiosks or online.

If you want a combination of solid quality and also a huge selection of beautiful cases, I’m a big fan of Casetify. I am 1000% certain you’ll find a fun and beautiful case from them that you’ll love, because their selection is that massive.

In any case (heh) I would recommend you get a MagSafe compatible case. These tend to be a little more expensive, but allow you to use all sorts of great accessories with ease, so it’s worth it. On that note…

Other Smartphone Accessories

If you like to capture clips of yourself travelling but are shy about it, I can definitely recommend getting a MagSafe phone tripod. These are magnetic and stick to the back of your phone super easily, making the process seamless and quick compared to the old school phone tripods that require mounting your phone manually.

I love this one because it folds up really neatly, and can be used as a phone stand for watching movies or for filming yourself in various locations – best of all worlds!

A MagSafe-compatible phone mount like this one might also be a good idea if you take frequent road trips.

Screen Protectors

I don’t personally use screen protectors because I don’t like the feel of them, but one product I always recommend to those who like them is this privacy screen protector that shields your phone and makes sure it’s only you who can see what’s on your screen. There are plenty of snoopy people out there, so if you’re worried about people looking over your shoulder or beside you at the information on your phone screen, this is a must-have.

Portable Chargers

Having phone battery is SO important when you travel these days and having one of these in your pocket guarantees you’re always able to stay connected.

This one from INIU is really thin and can fit in your pocket, I think it claims to be the slimmest one on the market, and I love it. When it charges it shows you the battery power as bits of a bear paw too which is very cute.

I would also recommend you get a MagSafe compatible one like this for wireless charging if you can. Since they don’t use any dangly wires, they are way more convenient on-the-go, and are ideal for situations where you might not be able to charge your phone via cable (like when there’s moisture detected in the charging port for instance).

Headphones

I am such a loyalist when I find a product I like, and these comfy Sony noise-cancelling headphones are proof of that. I used them religiously for years and years before I accidentally snapped them and upgraded to the next version up. Sean and I still share both (the original pair now patched up with electrical tape!!) and both are super comfortable to wear for hours and they drown out all noise – crying babies, chatty neighbours, airplane white noise – all of it.

I prefer these over ear ones because they’re just more comfortable than ear buds and harder to accidentally lose compared fo AirPods for instance.

Cameras and Lenses

As a Sony headphone loyalist, it’s probably no surprise that I love their cameras too.

On most trips, I now travel with two cameras: this one that I use more for photos, and this one that I use more for videos.

This is my favourite cheap lens, and this is my favourite (ultra wide) lens I use for most on-the-go travel clips.

Other Helpful Accessories

Lastly, there are some additional accessories I think you should know about, depending on the type of travelling you’re doing.

If you’re travelling in the winter for instance, touch screen compatible gloves like these are a good idea.

And if you’re travelling anywhere you’ll be in water a lot (e.g. a beach vacation), then waterproof pouches for your phone like this are a smart way to keep moisture out while helping you stay mobile… with hands free for margaritas, etc.
