Never in my life have I visited a place as unexpected as Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Besides eager day trippers waddling in from nearby Croatia, this tiny country, packed with beauty, still skims like a ninja under the main tourist radar.
… But it’s not just the physical beauty of Bosnia that reels you in. For me, it’s the country’s unwavering resilience and optimism, felt in the warmth of the people, their candid openness about their past and their steady dedication to reversing negative assumptions around their country.
Most stories of Bosnia told in the media are ones of devastation, loss and tragedy, but that’s only one side of the country’s multi-faceted truth. Today, I want to show you that Bosnia is more than a country recently devastated by war… it’s a stunning, worthwhile destination filled with endless amounts of magnetic beauty and charm.
This is the beauty of Bosnia & Herzegovina in photos… I hope you like it.
PS: I spent most of my time in Mostar, because I loved it so much I kept extending my stay. This left almost no time to explore Sarajevo and other parts of the country… something I hope to rectify very soon. Let me know in the comments where else in Bosnia & Herzegovina I need to visit on my next trip!

That’s one of the most magical things about this country – so much of its beauty is undiscovered. You seriously need to see for yourself! It’s amazing 🙂
Lovely blog post!
You should definitely visit the north western part it is like a whole other country! very green lots of forests and rivers. food and people are also very different than in mostar and hercegovina in general! lots of activities to do there like river rafting, hiking etc.
Enjoy your stay in our pretty country 😀
Gosh that sounds amazing, Erna. I can’t wait to come back someday!
Beautiful photo. I love that more people are discovering my motherland. It’s been two years since I’ve been back and I can’t wait to go next summer. I’d also recommend trebinje (where I was born), for history travnik and Stolac are nice. So is Konjic near mostar. Jajce has a gorgeous waterfall and though I’ve never been I hear the north like bihac and una are beautiful. In fact the whole country but you’d need a whole year haha
I guess that just means I need to keep going back over and over 😉 No complaints about that. Thanks for the suggestions, Ariana!
You need to go to the Una River
I’ve heard amazing things about that place. I’d love to! 🙂
You need to get with these guys to explore the whole country…

There are so many things for you to see in Bosnia its ridiculous.Im not just saying that as a Bosnian but its the truth. While most of European forests, rivers, lakes, animals, and so on were destroyed Bosnia we kept all of ours.We today have one of the last remaining rain Forests on the European continent called Perucica its beautiful. Many many waterfalls especially if you go to the UNA river.Ether way THANK YOU for showing my nation in a positive light for change.Bosnian people are some of the most hospitable people and are warm and accepting of others so i hope you have a great time in Mostar and everywhere else you go.Enjoy your stay and once again Thank You
Thank YOU for such a lovely comment. I adore Bosnia. I really hope to come back again soon!
The entire country of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the gem ! Beautiful is understatement… Jajce, Visoko, Travnik, Sarajevo, Mostar, Bihac, Prijedor, Odzak, Doboj, Bilino Polje… and many more are must see, the bucket list! Eat Bosnian dish such as pita, Cevapi, Burek … people of this great nation are the biggest asset … you’ll feel like at home wherever you go! If you by any chance run out of $$ , rest assured you won’t be hungry, just say it and big hearts ♥️ of BiH citizens will jump to the action… the truth is, we have experienced the war, first hand, 25 years ago and hope that we’ll never going to be on the same pathway ever again! Bosnian tourism should’ve been promoted & your word of mouth is doing a great job in performing the same! Its much appreciated! Everyone should be able to visit and see country of European southeast. Reasonably priced, unforgettable vacation spot and European best kept secret is BiH!!! #volimTeBosnoIHercegovino
Everything you say is so true. I felt SO welcome in Bosnia and felt the warmth of your people everywhere I went. Also, the food was pretty amazing too 😉 I can’t wait to come back soon. Thank you so much for the lovely suggestions and comment!
I have been all over Bosnia. I recommend visiting the Bliha Waterfall near Sanski Most. You can feel the power of the massive waterfall run right through you!
Jablanica offers views of the mountains unlike any other area I have seen in the whole country. The lake is like a glass mirror. Stunning.
Jajce is worth spending some time, too. The waterfall and lake are amazing to see!
Stop by Sunce Restoran in Bihać and eat your lunch right next to the Una River. The food is delicious and atmosphere is serene.
Take a rafting trip just about anywhere! I recommend taking one out of Kluč. While you are there visit the castle!
As a matter of fact, go visit every fortress or castle that you can. You won’t be Sorry!
If you make your way to the top of Mt Vlasic, eat at a cafe on top and buy some honey from roadside vendors on your way down!
Thank you for all these amazing recommendations!! <3 I can't wait to come back soon 🙂
It’s Bosnia-Herzegovina NOT Herzgovina******** But nice pictures !
Oh my gosh thank you so much – it was an honest typo!!! It amazes me that you were the first person to bring it up though hahah I’ve fixed it now 🙂
great photos!
Thank you so much, Tanja! <3

Bosnia-Herzegovina is a superb country! And your pictures show all this beauty! Stari Most looks like it comes directly from a fairy tale. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Guys,
If you are going to Mostar, you have to visit two restaurants….Romanca (https://hercegovinavino.com/en/romanca) (it is in a vineyard on the outskirts of the city. The second one if Restoran Del Rio (https://www.facebook.com/DelRioMostar/?fref=ts). Both have incredible food!! Del Rio has the best calamari that I have ever tasted in my life!! And that is coming from a seafood junkie.
I am absolutely in love with this country!!!!

Is bosnia safe for woman?
Lucy, safer than most of European countries.
Paddy Ashdown’s wife (look him up on wikipedia) said that she felt safer walking the streets of Sarajevo at midnight than walking at nights in London.
Bosnia Herzegovina seems amazing place to visit. Majestic photos.
