The past month has been beyond amazing for me, and the cherry on top of this very sweet sundae has been two Liebster Award nominations!
For those of you that haven’t heard of it, the Liebster Award is an award given to bloggers by bloggers. Basically when you get nominated, you answer a set of questions provided by the blogger who nominated you, and then you pass on the fun to some more nominees. It’s meant to give some much needed recognition to newbie bloggers, help them get discovered, and introduce others to new blogs at the same time. Totally a win-win right? Well, I’d like to thank Randitions by Randi and Facades and Nuances for their nominations!
Lovely readers, you’re about to learn a lot about me. Brace yourselves!
—- PS: If I nominated you, you can scroll down to the bottom for the questions! —-
First up are questions from Randi (of Randitions by Randi), a lovely lifestyle blogger and fellow Communication student based out of Pittsburgh. Check her out!
Why did you start your blog?
I’ve always loved writing, and had considered blogging for a long time. I finally decided to take the plunge after I came home from my backpacking trip in Europe! I had accumulated so many awesome experiences and tips there that it seemed like a shame to not share them with the world. I also love random DIY projects so having my own blog seemed like the perfect place to share all that.
What does a normal day in your life look like?
I’m still finishing up my degree, so a normal day would probably involve going to class or work (I’m a part-time Communications Assistant at my university’s student society), then grabbing some dinner before heading home to indulge in some Reality TV (I’m obsessed with Survivor, Big Brother and the Amazing Race). On weekends and when I’m not too busy with school, I love picking up my camera and going on solo photo walks around the city.
What is the best job you’ve ever had?
This is cheating because the job hasn’t officially started yet, but I recently secured the most amazing internship ever for this summer, as a Photo Reporter for CroisiEurope! Long story short, I’ll be blogging, doing social media and taking photos for 3 months aboard CroisiEurope’s river cruises, visiting 14 countries in Europe & Southeast Asia in the process! Excited is an understatement.
Where is your favorite place to shop? (If you say Loft, we are automatically best friends!)
It’s funny that you mention Loft, because I went in there for the first time yesterday! I can definitely see why you like it so much! To be honest, I’m not a huge shopper. I typically shop once a season, spend a crazy amount of money, and then not worry about it for a few months haha. I don’t have any allegiance to a particular store – as long as they have pretty dresses and skirts, I’m there! My friends often joke about how I never wear pants, and it’s totally true – I HATE pants… Skirts and dresses forever, please!
What is your favorite meal?
Hardest question ever! You can’t do this to me! My go-to meals are always sushi and pho… I’m obsessed. If we want to get into specifics, I could probably live on salmon sashimi for the rest of my life.
What is your favorite accessory?
I love necklaces! Adding a statement necklace can jazz up your look instantly, and fool people into thinking you look put together haha.
If you could travel anywhere tomorrow, where would you go and why?
My travel obsessions change daily, but at the moment I’m really wanderlusting over South America… As cliched as it is, I really want to trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Peru looks absolutely incredible.
What’s one beauty product you cannot live without?
I am absolutely hopeless with makeup, but I think my answer would be eyeliner. You know when you’ve just gotten so used to wearing it, you feel like you don’t look like yourself without it? That’s me haha.
What’s your favorite season and why?
Summer, hands down! Warm weather, cold drinks, freedom, adventure… Nothing beats it.
If you were stuck on a desert island and could only have 3 things, what would they be? (Real original, I know)
Haha this question is the worst because I never know how to answer it! I mean an unlimited supply of food would be the obvious answer right? OKAY I’m going to sound like a total 21st century brat right now, but if I wanted to be happy forever on a deserted island, I would require the 3 following things: 1) My laptop and strong, reliable wifi, 2) an unlimited supply of food and drink, 3) company (someone fun please!)
These next questions are from Facades and Nuances, who blogs about travel, DIY and a lot of other cool things. Be sure to give her blog a read!
Tell us the story behind your blog! What inspired you to start blogging?
Well, I started this blog after returning from a backpacking trip in Europe last year. During that trip, I had so many cool experiences and learned a lot of amazing things that I thought would be cool to share with the world… and now here I am! I was really active on Instagram prior to this blog, and seeing the positive reactions I received on there really made me want to share even more with everyone! The greatest compliment a blogger can receive is that their work is inspirational. When someone tells me that my blog has inspired them in some way, my heart completely melts. That’s why I keep this up!
What are some of your favorite blogs?
There are too many! I love Heart My Backpack, where Silvia documents her travels in off-the-beaten path destinations like Iran and the ‘Stans’ (Central Asia). Her stories are so cool, and I love living vicariously through her crazy adventures. Nerd Nomads is also always a fun read.
What is your dream job?
As an early 20-something, my dream job is always changing, but no matter what, I know I want to do something creative that involves travel. Maybe full-time blogging? A girl can dream!
What is your favorite color and why?
This is a tough one! I love yellow because it’s such a happy colour, but I love wearing purple because it’s the prettiest.
What are three things on your bucket list?
My bucket list is miles long, so I’ll try my best to pick the most interesting ones… 1) Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, 2) Going on a safari in Tanzania (Serengeti or Ngorongoro) and 3) Sky diving in Dubai or Bora Bora (even though I am a total wimp).
Name three of your favorite books.
This is such a shame, but I haven’t been much of a reader since high school. There’s just something about university that makes you so jaded about reading (I blame you, textbooks and mandatory course readings!). That said, I have (and always will) love the Harry Potter and Hunger Games series. As well, since I’m a marketing nerd, one of my favourite reads in recent years has been Contagious by Jonah Berger. It goes into the logic behind why things go viral, which I find fascinating.
What is your favorite travel destination?
It’s a definite toss-up between Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast. Both are gorgeous, both have amazing food, and I’ve had incredible experiences travelling to both. As you can tell, I definitely have a weak spot for the Italian coast!
What is your least favorite travel destination?
Okay, this is likely an unpopular opinion, but in recent memory, my worst travel experience has been with Rome. Of course, that’s due to a combination of factors. For one, I got pickpocketed within 15 minutes of arriving in the city… I also stayed in sketchy accommodations, a lot of the major attractions were closed, the weather was bipolar (scorching hot/torrential downpours) and it was just overcrowded with tourists and scammers. Not very pleasant sadly 🙁
What place have you always dreamed of visiting?
Okay this is nerdy and very unlikely, but I’ve always dreamt about visiting outer space. When I was little, I was fascinated by space (and I still am). Young-me even wanted to be an astronaut! If I can live til the day that space travel becomes accessible to the mainstream… oh boy you can count me in.
What is your favorite quote?
“I’m in love with cities I’ve never been to and people I’ve never met.” This quote is just so true for me, and I even have a pretty notebook with it on the cover haha.
If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
This is an absolutely impossible question! I’m going to cop out with one of the first names that come to mind, which is Mindy Kaling. No lie – I just want her to be my best friend.
Now the really fun part! I’d like to pass on the love and nominate the following bloggers:
- Chloe from Wanderlust Chloe
- James and Gabby from The Globe Wanderers
- Wayne from Tao West Ventures
- Heidi from Hobo in High Heels
- Shawn and Jess from North & South Nomads
- Michelle from Confessed Travelholic
- Anna from WanderLust+Love
- Elle from Your Friend Elle
- Travel It Girl
Alrighty nominees, here are the 11 questions I’d like for you to answer! I tried to pick wackier ones in case you’ve done this before and didn’t want to answer the same old questions over and over.

2. If you could be any animal, what animal would you choose to be?
3. What is one of your most embarrassing moments?
