Visiting Vancouver? Don't miss these amazingly fat food experiences to try while you're in the foodie paradise.

For times when a dignified candle-lit meal won’t cut it, it’s comforting to know that I live in a city that offers a tremendous diversity in restaurants and food, including the fattiest food adventures you could (or should) ever need.

Grab your friends (or just a giant spoon), because this post will be covering 5 awesomely fat food experiences to try in Vancouver. You might need a blanket too, because there are plenty of food coma-worthy photos ahead.

1. The jumbo slush at The One. 5908 Kingsway, Burnaby.

The One Slush, Burnaby by Christina Guan

Is this even legal?

The One is well known for its generous portions of comforting Taiwanese cuisine and of course, for their gravity-defying slush drinks. Ranging from $5.50 – $7.00, these slushes are more than enough to share between 2-3 people, and are a huge draw for younger patrons living in the Burnaby area. Pair your giant slush with a heaping bowl of noodles, or their famous chicken nugget fried rice. You’re guaranteed to have leftovers, but the good news is you can even get your slush remainders packed up! Good luck with the brain freeze though.

2. The Checkmate Caesar from Score on Davie. 1262 Davie St, Vancouver.

Yeah this is a real thing.

This beastly caesar has become a Vancouver legend since its introduction this past summer. If you’ve ever wanted to drink a caesar that is garnished with a burger, a slider, pickle, onion rings, chicken wings, pulled pork mac & cheese hot dog and brownie for dessert, all jammed into a roast chickenwell, here’s your chance! This bad boy will set you back $60, but the street cred you’ll undoubtedly earn is priceless. It’s also enough to share between 2-3 people, so considering you’re getting alcohol and a badass meal, that price isn’t so bad. However, if you’re feeling less adventurous, the Score also offers a variety of cool caesars (on a smaller scale).

3. Dine-in dinner portion pasta at Anton’s Pasta Bar. 4260 East Hastings, Burnaby.

“Hello, I’d like enough pasta to feed a family please.”

Anton’s is a local favourite known for its legendary portions of comforting pasta dishes. In fact, if you can finish off one of these monsters, you’ll receive a special pen that says “I Ate the Whole Thing”. I’ve done it…. Twice. And I have no regrets whatsoever. With their no-reservation policy, lineups at this place can get outrageous, so be prepared to wait!

Sweet, sweet victory.

4. BBQ Platters at Memphis Blues. Locations around BC.

Great meal if you want to food coma FOREVER.

Hey meat lovers, meat your match. Upon entering Memphis Blues BBQ House, your nose will instantly be delighted by the smell of BBQ meat, meat and more meat. With a wide selection of meats and fix-ins, what you’ll really want to do is splurge on one of their many platters. If you want a filling feast with a side of clogged arteries, this is your place.

5. Chocolate chip banana bread French toast from Jethro’s Fine Grub. Locations on Dunbar and Fraser.

Chocolate chip banana bread French heart attack.

Breakfast food is my favourite, and Jethro’s Fine Grub does it big at both of their Vancouver locations. Literally. Their portions are huge, their pancakes are monstrous and they serve up decadent goodies like this Chocolate Chip Banana Bread French Toast. Yes, this exists. If you like banana bread, you’ll love this gooey, sweet and rich treat, which is topped off with extra bananas for good measure. Warning: you might not be able to finish it all, because the portion size is gigantic, and the flavour is insanely rich. Don’t feel bad if you need to pack things up – everyone else will be doing the same.
